The Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael McGivney in 1882 upon the principals of charity, unity and fraternity. Established to render financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy of their parish, the Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States and the world. It is now the world's largest Catholic lay organization and open to all Catholic men in good standing with the Church who are 18 years of age or older.
The Knights of Columbus council at St. Thomas More is considered a college council and is made up of both resident and student parishioners. It is the mission of the Knights to promote charity in the home, in the Church and in the community by fund-raising and volunteer work. Their priorities are the Church, their brother Knights and the parish community as they strive to provide an example of how to serve the Lord and the Church obediently and with pride. At St. Thomas More the Knights raise funds for charitable causes by sponsoring a Lenten fish fry, providing a barbecue stand during home football games as well as promoting good works and good faith.
